A resume for any job in Canada
Employers spend seconds on a resume. One clear page with the right words gets you the call. Here is how, step by step.
Free, always.
Keep it to one page (two at most)
- Name, city, phone and email at the top. No full address needed.
- No photo, age, date of birth, marital status or religion. Canadian employers do not expect them.
- Plain layout, one font, no tables or text boxes, so job-site software can read it.
Start with three lines about you
- Say what job you want and your strongest proof. Example: "Warehouse worker with 3 years of picking and forklift experience. Safe, fast and never late."
- Change the job title in this line to match each job you apply for.
List skills the job post asks for
- Copy the exact words from the post: "Excel", "AZ licence", "customer service", "Python".
- Put licences, certificates and tools here too: forklift, WHMIS, Smart Serve, CompTIA A+.
Work history: newest first, with results
- Job title, company, city, and dates (month and year).
- Two to four lines each. Start with an action word: built, served, loaded, sold, fixed.
- Add numbers when you can: "served 200 customers a day", "cut errors by half".
- Experience from outside Canada counts. Write it the same way.
Education and training
- Highest education, the country, and the year.
- Short courses and certificates that fit the job.
Before you send
- Read it twice, out loud. One typo can cost the job.
- Save it as a PDF named "Firstname-Lastname-Resume.pdf".
- Keep a simple Word copy too: some employers ask for it.
