Jobs we help with

Common software, IT and AI jobs and what you need

IT support / help desk

Fix laptops, accounts, printers and networks for staff; answer tickets by phone, chat and in person.

You need: CompTIA A+ or similar helps, patience, clear writing. Many first IT jobs start here.

Software developer

Build and fix web, mobile or business software in a team.

You need: One language you know well (JavaScript, Python, Java or C#), Git, and two or three projects you can show.

Data analyst

Turn company data into reports and dashboards that managers use.

You need: Excel, SQL, and one dashboard tool (Power BI or Tableau). Python is a bonus.

AI / machine learning roles

Build, test or put AI models and AI tools to work inside a business.

You need: Python, statistics, and real projects. Many people move in from data or software roles.

What employers ask for

Get these right and you get the call

  • Proof you can do the work: a GitHub link, a portfolio or a short project list beats a long resume.
  • The exact tools in the posting, named on your resume the same way (for example "Power BI", not "BI tools").
  • Clear written English: tickets, emails and chat are most of the day in IT.
  • Certificates help for first jobs: CompTIA A+, Microsoft (AZ-900, PL-300), Google IT Support or AWS Cloud Practitioner.
  • Since January 1, 2026, Ontario employers with 25 or more staff may not ask for "Canadian experience" in a job posting. Your experience from home counts.

Interview tips

Questions software, IT and AI employers really ask

Tap a question to see how to answer. Want more? Read our full interview guide.

Walk me through a project you are proud of.
Pick one. Say the problem, what you built, the tools, and the result in numbers if you can. Two minutes.
How would you fix a user who "cannot log in"?
Talk it through in order: ask what they see, check the account, password, network, then escalate. They want your steps, not a magic answer.
What do you do when you do not know the answer?
Say you search the documentation, test safely, and ask a teammate after a fair try. Honesty wins here.
Tell me about a time you worked with a difficult deadline.
Use problem, action, result. Show you told people early and cut scope instead of hiding.
Do you have questions for us?
Ask what the first 90 days look like and how the team reviews code or tickets.
Questions

Good to know

I have IT experience from outside Canada. Does it count?
Yes. Put it on your resume like any other experience, with the tools and results. In Ontario, employers with 25 or more staff can no longer ask for Canadian experience in a job posting.
I am new to IT. Where do I start?
Help desk and IT support are the usual first step. A certificate such as CompTIA A+ or Google IT Support plus a short project list is enough to start applying.
Do you charge me anything?
No. Excelone never charges job seekers. Employers pay us when they hire through us.
