Interview tips

Questions waste management employers really ask

Tap a question to see how to answer. Want more? Read our full interview guide.

Can you start at 5 or 6 in the morning?
Say yes only if you can, and say how you get there. Transport is a big question for early routes.
Have you driven a waste truck before?
Say which types (front-load, rear-load, side-load, roll-off). If not, say what heavy trucks you have driven.
How do you stay safe on a route?
Mention backing up with a spotter, checking mirrors, and watching for people and cars near the bins.
How do you handle bad weather?
Show you dress for it and keep going safely, and that you know when to stop and call it in.
Do you have questions for us?
Ask about the route, the truck type, and the start time.
